From Crash Diets to Holistic Health Coaching
For more than a decade, I struggled with being overweight and I tried every crash diet that came my way. I was so fixated on losing weight, that I did not realize how the choices I made then left me feeling unhappy and in a state of struggle! No wonder my twenties felt like a “blah”! Low energy and very little enthusiasm! I literally felt like I was just stumbling through each day, constantly just going through the motions and surviving each day.
My journey to wellness began in 2017. I had just had my son and of course, it started out as a weight loss journey again but this time it was different. I was tired of the fad diets and yo-yo weight loss/weight gain. Although I had always known the basics, eat healthy and exercise, I had been chasing the quick fix for years. Now it was time to go back to the basics and perhaps if I could just make it a habit, a lifestyle, then I will never really have to worry about my weight again. Little did I know, that was the beginning of my journey to embracing a holistic lifestyle.
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, I coordinated a virtual 12-week meal plan and workout program for my extended family members which was a beautiful way to keep us active and connected; great, not just for our physical but mental health as well. Its success reignited my passion for working with people, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals. I completed my Certification in Holistic Nutrition in 2021 became a Certified Holistic Health Coach through American Fitness Professionals & Associates in 2022.
Through this journey, I have discovered the power of a holistic approach to health, which encompasses the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects. I have also experienced first hand how you can completely change your life by changing your habits. I learned how to eat to gain life, not to lose weight as well as cultivating healthier and helpful habits, such as spending more time in nature, praying, meditating, Bible studying and journaling. Not only did I experience a huge physical transformation and gained new levels of energy, but I became a more positive person with a better outlook on life, retraining my mind to find the good in every situation.
While I am still navigating this journey, I hope to use my knowledge and experiences to guide others towards better health and wellness. We can learn from those who have gone before us, their mistakes, successes, and experiences, to soar even higher.
